Leave it to DK Publishing (of Eyewitness Books fame) to create something this cool! Yes, it's the one boys ages 7-13 have been waiting for: a reader-friendly book about cars.

Car Science is divided into four sections. The first is Power. My favorite spread in this section is "Making gasoline," but the part about gears is also fascinating, as is "Bugatti Veyron," about a car with 1001-brake horsepower, which means it can go from 249 mph to a stop in under 10 seconds.

Section 2 is Speed. It begins with a colorful chart comparing the speeds of different animals and vehicles, from a snail's .03 mph to the Thrust SSC's land-speed record of 763 mph. I also liked finding out how something as odd as a boxfish could give designers an idea for the shape of a car in "Inspired by Nature."

Section 3 addresses Handling. My favorite spread title here is "Wall of Death," with "Monster Trucks" and "Car-crash Science" tied for second.

Section 4, Technology, starts off by explaining what cars are made of, moving on to topics like scuba cars before ending happily with "Top 10 Crazy Ideas."

Car Science is written at about a 3rd grade level, but its appeal is much broader. The book serves as an alluring introduction to understanding how cars work. My only request is that someone now write a book explaining cars and their engines in more detail, perhaps at a 6th-8th grade level. (The next one "up" I found was for high schoolers and adults.) In the meantime, boys--and girls--should take a look at this fast, shiny sports car of a book. VROOM! VROOM!

Worth the wait

I preordered this book back in June (might have been July), and the release date kept getting moved back. Was starting to think it was never coming out. But here it is. I really needed this book, I started with Corel Draw way back with version 2 - and worked with it through to version 8 (and the my place of employment switched to using Adobe products). I picked up a license of Corel Draw X5 home and school edition, but never really got into it. It was just a bit too different that what I remembered. Now I am planning on becoming proficient with Corel Draw once again and have a license of the new X7 that I want to learn. Which is why I wanted this book. Nowadays you usually don't get a manual with software - least not like you use to. Sure there is a PDF user guide that comes with the software, but I like having a real book that I can hold in my hands. This new edition of the Official Guide is great - IMO. It's filled with tutorials. There are files that you need to do most of them, and you have to download those from a website. The book has information on where to do that.

One thing I really look for in a book / manual like this is a comprehensive index. I want to be able to quickly look up information when I need it, and having to blindly flip through chapters to find something drives me crazy. This guide has a good index.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot from this book. There have been a lot of changes and improvements to Corel Draw since I last used it. Starting off, I'm working on learning some new 3D techniques right now - Chapter Three.

Not Corel Draw X7 for Dummies but it has it all in it

This is a hard review to write. First I should say I have some sort of reading and understanding at the same time disability when it comes to stuff like this. With that said I still like the book but I use it strictly for reference.

After a lot of research for my new business I decided the program Corel Draw X7 seemed to be the best investment and universal program to use. I had used other "design" programs before but nothing with so much going on in just one program.

I knew the program could do almost all I needed, but knowing it can and knowing how it can are 2 different things.

I could not locate a Corel Draw X7 Book for Dummies so I went with this one. I ended up pretty much learning from YouTube most of the items I needed to get a really good understanding of Corel Draw X7. I now find the book more useful now that I have a 50 to 70 percent base understanding of how the program works. (That percent is a guestimate, the more you know the less you know) My personal challenge is always remember how something is done, even if I have done it before and this book is nice to just look at quick and go "oh Yea".

It may work well with others as a book to use to learn the program if you have a good ability to read, understand and maintain something. Otherwise it is wonderful for easy look ups. It seems to be organized well and I can easily look up items that I am looking for at that moment.

I would recommend this book for just about anyone trying to learn or just for reference. It may not be as useful for some but any book that can help in any way can't be a bad thing.

Bouton's tutorials let you learn basics and then stretch your fingers and master the finer creative choices available to you. Beginner or intermediate, this is a great book.

There are tons of things to juggle when you manage and/or own a salon; this book gives you the tools to balance them with ease.

This book covers EVERYTHING—from managing your staff to retail products to marketing your business to saving it when it’s going under. Sometimes, it is time for a remodel or to move your salon’s location—and, yes, sometimes it may be time to close those doors. But don’t throw in the towel without reading this book!

I have been strugeling with my salon business since the day I opened my salon. I have searched high and low and could not find the help I needed to turn my business around. My accountant told me I should close the salon. I found this book online and have followed everything in this book. I have implemented everything I could. I cut my expenses as the author said to do. I have called my landlord and asked for help. It all has worked and I finally have begun to turn the corner. A i now have extra money for marketing. Buy this book and you will grow your business.

(Jane) Emily Gerard (7 May 1849 – 11 January 1905) was a nineteenth-century author best known for the influence her collections of Transylvanian folklore had on Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Dr. Agnes Murgoci (1875-1929), born Kelly, was an English zoologist and folklorist. Born in Adelaide, South Australia, she graduated from Bedford College in 1896, obtained first class honours in zoology, and a PhD from the University of Munich. She married Gheorghe Munteanu-Murgoci, a Romanian professor of mineralogy and moved to Bucharest. She published articles on the folklore of her new home, especially early studies on vampirism, and a book, Rumania and the Rumanians. Her works appeared in the journal of the Folklore Society.

Where should I even begin?...This book is A GIFT to all people who are having so-called relationship problems. Why?
1) Some people just don't do relationships. Why is it such a crime to be single and why is a person's value judged by whether he or she has a a significant other or not. Being single is just a choice--it doesn't make you right or wrong, a success or a failure. You gotta choose what makes you happy
2) I've seen this countless times--people keep sacrificing themselves in relationships to "make the relationship work", to "show they love the other person", so they can receive the validation that "they are good lovers and they are loved". Gosh, that's the start of most relationship problems--either the person who has always been giving in will eventually "that's enough!" or will just be in this eternal pit of misery. Stop living for others and live for yourself!
3) What if most of the loving acts or attraction thing we do are just judgments. People decide who is attractive based on what the media defines as attractive (other people's judgments), what their family and friends tell them are desirable (other people's judgments), but not what they truly like, sans all those judgments. No wonder people find they person they "thought" they initially fell in love with gradually become not as desirable...because you never really see that person as who they really are in the first place!
4) Same thing goes for sex. You think that person is hot so you should be turned on? Judgments
5) True intimacy is achieved only when all the barriers are down and there are no judgments in between--just an acknowledgment of what the other person is. Relationships are measured by how far the distance is between the two objects (or persons) and there will always be a degree of separation. It is intimacy we truly would like to have, not a mere relationship.

This is a must read if you are sincerely interested in changing your life, especially your relationship with yourself. Using the clearings in this book, I unlocked a deeply held belief that was destroying my health. The first time i read this book it kind of went over my head...after about a month i decided to reread it and it felt as if I hadn't read it before!!
Places in the book are confusing but overall Gary Douglas does get the point thru that we cut of pieces of ourselves to make others happy and we don't need to Divorce ourselves as thats the most important relationship. Gave me a lot of clarity and some very good AHA moments;-)
Also certain clearings and tools felt as if they would work...guess will have to wait and watch:-)
Its a very good book for anyone who does not feel happy with the relationships they have created so far in their lives. I loved it

However the morning after, it turns out that the hot guy who rocked her world, Aiden Odell, is the man who got the job Quinn coveted.

What a great book! A DANGEROUSLY SEXY AFFAIR is and so much more than a few sexy bits held together by a flimsy story. There is at least as much suspense as there are sex scenes; the story itself is as good as any suspense novel, and the sex is playful, hot and tender. Ms. London has created terrific characters all around, and Quinn and Aiden are very real fleshed out, and they are great separately as well as together; they share real chemistry, and the way their relationship evolved was realistic and utterly delectable. One thing I particularly enjoyed is that both Quinn and Aiden are equals, and for that alone A DANGEROUSLY SEXY AFFAIR is worth reading. Both have issues, which are dealt with intelligently and subtly, and do not weigh the book down, but rather enrich it. The characters, the setting, the story are all flawless, and the writing is impeccable: the prose is crisp, clear, yet flowing and eloquent. Quinn and Aiden are exactly the types of characters I like to read about, and the story is just what I look for. A DANGEROUSLY SEXY AFFAIR is excellent from beginning to end: there is not one little hitch!

This is a great story

Fabulous story I loved this one from page one it has everything you want in a romance hot gorgeous and a very caring hero a heroine who is quirky fun but has some issues from her past that have kept her single for some time now and she has just been passed over for a promotion at work it is time for a change.

Quinn Dellinger IT specialist and is a very keen gamer and is at an industry party with her best friend Alana when she sees the most sexy handsome man and her body tingles in a way it has not done for some time can she do this have a one night stand and switch of the past, well she is going to try and when handsome guy sees Quinn the tingles increase.

Aiden Odell is just about to start a new job with his best friends security firm he has just left the FBI after an injury has changed things for him and he has come to the industry party to try and get some leads never thinking he would meet the gorgeous girl with the pink hair and sparks would fly and a sexy passionate night would be had.

When Quinn arrives at work the next morning and discovers that the hot sexy guy Aiden is none other than the guy who got her job more sparks fly but when they are teemed up to together to solve this case and Quinn goes undercover they get closer and both open up more Quinn has such a hard time trusting but Aiden is so caring and the affair heats up. This is a story that is fun and so very enjoyable hot steamy and with characters that are so real there are games to play as well as a case to solve but above all a beautiful romance between two very deserving people that had me smiling and Aiden will always be a favourite hero of mine. I highly recommend this one.

Fearing the growing capabilities of the Omega members, the Covens call upon their Gypsy allies, some of whom they casually sacrifice as part of their strategy to frighten and execute Omega members. Furious, the Gypsies reluctantly realize they must reconsider their alliances. The battle spills over into Europe, and some innocent bystanders who become aware of the Coven monsters in their midst pay an awful price. Eventually acknowledging the compassionate intentions of the Omega Project, the Gypsy clans cautiously develop trust and agree to help Omega launch a counterattack against the Covens, despite knowing they must face the evil Emil, who is powerful enough to kill by thoughts alone.

University of California, Merced Physics Professor Ken O'Neal flies from Sacramento to Denver musing how he already misses his wife of thirteen years Jill who remained behind due to a seminar. On the flight he appreciates the flair and attention attendant Michelle Kolberg gives to everyone on board. Twenty-four years old Michelle likes people even as she muses over whether she is the only virgin flight attendant. However, she suddenly sees herself though his eyes and likewise he sees himself through hers. Both are stunned by this telepathic connection and begin to search for other sensitive souls.

The pair creates the Omega Project at Merced. However, their good intentions come to the attention by Covens who employ mind control to feed off the brains of telepaths. When the brain of student Bonny is assaulted, war explodes between the benign Omega and the ruthless Covens led by Emil who kills without a thought while the wild card is Gypsies.

The key to this exciting good and evil battle is that in war innocent pawns die as the not pure Gypsies learn the hard way. Each side is 200 proof of either goodness or vile evilness; as the bad guys have centuries of experience and no moral compass while the heroes suffer doubts and guilt. Fast-paced, readers will appreciate these two adversarial visions of telepathic use.

This book was spell binding, and I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I have always had a basic belief in telepathy and it's interesting how Mr. Cahill ties it in with good and love. There will always be evil in the world, but we need something good to believe in and he has created that scenario. Thank you to the author for a positive outlook in something that may be stonger and recognizable in our future. Read Thomas A. Cahill's book "Annals of the Omega Project - A Trilogy."

Devotees of science fiction stories will find many things to like in this book

So - I was hooked in to the book at the summary, and while I expected complexity, I did not realize that the depth of the story and concepts, all to illustrate a basic tale of good versus evil would be hidden within these pages.

It was an interesting concept, with forays into telepathy and mind-control, characters that convey good and evil in equal measures, political and tactical alliances and a battle for control. The need to know what direction the author would take Omega, and whether good could triumph was a major impetus for me to keep reading, even when I found repetition of simplistic elements, or a passage that was overly detailed and would have better served the plot with less information given, but more detail shown.

What was not clearly explained, and leaves me wondering is the apparent naivet� of the members of Omega. While they do question those they encounter about their activities, there doesn't seem to be any further investigation of the story or the belief in it. Where I was confused was if their skills were better attuned to "truthful" statements, or if the passivity of the characters that comprised Omega was not thought to be important enough to address, or somehow I missed the explanations early on. In situations where they must be offensive, the passivity does seem to fade to the background, and they do manage to focus and get things done.

Devotees of science fiction stories will find many things to like in this book, and find it unique. Some readers may find difficulty in the basic language of the text: the author is a university professor, with writing style and word choice best suited to those with a facility in the English language, and ability to follow / grasp complex scientific concepts and find the interrelations between concepts presented and plot elements happening. It was not an easy read, but it was a read that was unique in concept although I could not read this all in one sitting.

Comprehensive & effective!

The sections all had great practice questions as well as helpful test tips, the answers were well explained in case you missed on, and the practice essays were extremely detailed providing samples of good, mediocre, and bad essays. No problems on test day, I did great.

Good for any level

I am taking the CBEST soon and although I’m fairly confident I’d do well anyway, I like to be sure and like to prepare. I’m glad I did, this book was very helpful. Although I can recall all the concepts, it’s been a while since I’ve used them so it was worthwhile to brush up and get a little practice. I’d recommend this book regardless of where you think you currently stand on the spectrum of preparedness.

First checked out at library. Children where so intrigued by it that I found on Amazon and purchased out own paperback copy. Children aren't at reading level yet, but it's cute and easy to read if they where at reading level. Wish it came in different languages.
