Leon Trotsky (1879-1940) was a Bolshevik revolutionary and major theorist of Marxism. He was one of the key leaders of the 1917 Russian Revolution, second only to V.I. Lenin in political importance.

Shouldn't judge a book by its cover unless its this dumb book

The copy i bought looks hilariously bad. The cover photo is super low resolution (who thought this looked good?) and the back cover which gives a synopsis of the book has many typos that make this book hard to believe a professional looked at this, and signed off on it. there is no bibliography page in the book either so i don't know who published it...which sucks because, I wanted to see what the quality of there other books are.

Hardly the most important book by Trotsky. Read it, but also read a critique.

This is certainly not the most important book Trotsky ever wrote!. If you read the material posted by the publisher, it gives you "an analysis of why the Russian Revolution failed and a passionate counter-blast to Stalin and what Trotsky sees as the betrayal of revolutionary ideals." If you want to read about that, read The Revolution Betrayed. As far as a "a blue-print for the future," Trotsky didn't believe there was such a thing. Yes, reading Marx, Engels, Lenin, Trotsky, James P. Cannon, Farrell Dobbs, Joseph Hansen, George Novack, Fidel Castro, Che Guevara, Thomas Sankara, Maurice Bishop, and many others will help one to be part of a revolutionary party, without which the future is quite bleak. But you have to be part of the working class; part of everyday struggles going on, and part of protests against deportations, against cop brutality, for $15.00 and a union, and so on.
For a modest critique of the Permanent Revolution, read Their Trotsky and Ours. If you want to read the most important books by Trotsky, try History of the Russian Revolution, The Struggle against Fascism in Germany (Merit), In Defense of Marxism: The Social and Political Contradictions of the Soviet Union (which should be read along withThe Struggle for a Proletarian Party), My Life: An Attempt at an Autobiography, and some of the many other Trotsky books published by Pathfinder Press.
